This stunning masterpiece was created by Debi Baker, a Baby Lock Educator. An amazing decorator pillow trimmed with fringe created from seven different yarns. The tiger design is from Zundt and sewn with a new soft light weight 40 wt metallic thread. The thread yields a nice looking supple design.
Debi, made fringe first with a couple of yarns but wanted a more robust look, so she kept winding additional yarns onto the rods.
The final result is thick lush custom fringe after woundimg on seven different yarns layering each one on top of the previous yarn.
The gorgeous pillow fits over a 16" square form, however with the generous flange plus fringe it has a much larger appearance.
Thank you for loaning this high end pillow for display in our booth at Martha's Sewing Market, May 2010!
I understand this pillow caused quite a roar of reviews when Debi showcased it on a sewing cruise to Alaska! It IS Fabulous!

This adorable lamp with shade was purchased at a hobby store.
The base was sprayed green.
The shade came with lower beaded edge; however there are many beads by the yard sold very inexpensively so you could add your own.
The topper was made of the mini ladder ribbon yarn. We often have some of this yarn for sale in various colors.
To make this lamp topper (or a garter, think weddings and proms) measure around the circumference of the lamp shade.
Place rods into My Own Fringemaker in the holes that will yield the drop length desired. The closer together the shorter the drop length, the further apart the longer the fringe drop length.
Stitch elastic onto header, holding the yarn [fringe] slightly taught the length of the fringe to keep fringe from gathering up.
Place the garter onto the lamp shade.
Optional: Hide header stitching like I did. Add a little glue to header stitching and wind a couple of the yarn strings over the stitching to hide the stitching. I used glue that dries clear.
HINT: Create a lamp topper in school colors and use as a fund raiser! Or change it out seasonally for a fresh look.
This is not the easiest project, non-the-less it is a no brainer! Give it a try and email a photo of your project to share in the Gallery.

Isn't this pillow beautiful?
This was a special techniques class. The result was a custom embroidered pillow framed with 48" custom fringe.
Every single pillow was unique and gorgeous partly because the students chose their own thread colors.
One of the techniques was to create 48" fringe using My Own Fringemaker.
To Make 48" of fringe. Set up fringe maker.
My friend, Dayna sewed, embroidered and framed out the pillow with custom fringe. The end result is a beautiful custom pillow.
She generously let me take it to the Paducah Quilt Show for showcasing as well as place it here in the Gallery.

Beautifully done, fabric covered boxes! Great catch alls perfect on the bedside table These decorator boxes are so nice, they could grace any room shelf or table and add that touch of class. Kathi decorated and fringed this set of boxes. She used Christopher Lowell fabrics and coordinated yarns into fringe matching the fabrics. Kathi gave the fringe on the smaller box a hair cut - trimming it for a slightly different twist from the larger box. Note there is a medallion on top of large box and pearls gracing small box at the bottom. These are ordinary boxes from the Hobby store. Who'd guess? You too can do this! Give it a try.
Note: Change out fabrics and yarns matching school colors... or decorate the boxes with faux leather or suede fabrics for a more masculine look. Email photos of what you create.
Please try this project!
Here are Kathi's instructions:

This Marilyn Monroe nightgown is a show stopper! Purchased without fringe from TJ Max for $8.99.
This would be a lovely (and slightly risky') gift. Present it at a bridal shower - - - it's reported to me as the most memorable gift at the shower! Imagine what we dreamed up for the groom with fringe now the laughter and howling start?
How-To-make fringe for your nightgown:
Choose your yarns and ribbons. I used green eyelash yarn.
Set up My Own Fringemaker and simply wind yarn[s] onto the rods.
Straight stitch the header, remove the rods and attach fringe to nightgown.
I sewed the fringe onto the gown with sewing machine. Starting from side seam across the front, following neckline contours, ending at other side seam all with a straight stitch. Very easy to do!

A cute toddler outfit sold at Target; the problem was there were thirty identical outfits hanging on the same rack.
No one wants to show up in identical outfits and we don't like our children to either.
With thirty identical outifts for sale, means every lil girl will look the same.
Why not upgrade this outfit by adding some fringe made of narrow 1/8" ribbon and eyelash yarn?
In minutes this outfit spirals from cute to boutique adorable.
Tweak every outfit from discount stores with custom fringe and people will think you only shop the boutiques = FASHION BUDGET SAVER!
To make this fringe:
Measure across the chest and around both pant legs.
~Slip one rod under the presser foot, center foot between both rods.
~Straight stitch down center between rods several times.
~Remove rod unit from under presser foot and take back to table.
Cut fringe off both rods, this is loose fringe or known as cut fringe.
Isn't it surprising that a few inches of fringe can create an upscale look?
This is easy, easy, easy making fringe and your angels will be eager to wear outfits like this!
My Own Fringemaker can save you a lot of money.

People are amazed this fabulous fringed window treatment was created using string. The crochet string has a metallic thread running along the string, adding shimmer to the over all fringe. I added one strand of beige strand, from my private line coming this fall, to round out the colors. The finished valance fringe has a 3" drop. After winding on and sewing the header, cut the loops from one rod so fringe hangs loose. The tie backs are also made on My Own Fringemaker. The fringed tie backs are looped on both sides of the center header stitching. The look is very nice and when you make these you'll see how simple these are to make - give it a try it.
FYI, the crochet string priced at $3.99 for hundreds of yards on a spool is available in a variety of colors everywhere yarn is sold. Changing out the color of the valance fringe and tie backs seasonally is very affordable.
This same type of string was used to make some of the tassels you see in the Gallery Tassels Category as well as the Summer Sandals in the Gallery Footware Category take a look at these too.
If I had paid an upscale decorator alot of money to add fringe, I'd be living with the colors for a long while. However My Own Fringemaker liberates sewers to create fabulous fringe right now. Pick up My Own Fringemaker - it is a inflation beating tool for you! Your friends will eny you and your clients will love your attention to details, returning for more!

Isn't this a gorgeous photo of beautiful dancers, all decked out in black pants trimmed in fringe? One Mom, Debbie K, sewed the tops and pants for this dance routine. Before assembling the pants she sewed on purchased fringe costing $750. If she had used My Own Fringemaker she would have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars with DIY make fringe determination. If she had taken it one step further and attached all the fringe using Snap Tape, all this fringe trim could be removed and transferred onto other costumes - resulting in very economical fringe costumes! The result is an inexpensive shirt embellished with fringe looks like the pricey shirts from a boutique.

This is a show stopping fringe pillow ~ both sides are awesome! The four squares are embroidered featuring Anita Good Designs. The four squares are sewn together to make one large square. Melinda taught one side in a class. Please read My Blog Events for additional photos of event fun where these beautiful pillows were created. Everyone had so much fun, embroidering, making fringe and laughing all the while! Note the combination of yarns made into fringe which set off and accentuate both sides of the pillow.
FYI: The thread colors coordinated beautifully on both sides of the pillow. If the colors look off it might be the photo or your computer resolution or a combination of both.

When this young dancer bows at the end of her routine, people stand and yell Bravo, bravo. My young talented dancer friend has been dancing since she was able to walk. I wondered how many skirts her mom would buy in a year. At $8.99 from Walmart it is not a budget buster; however if you buy several skirts a year, it adds up year after year. Who needs that expense in their budget? Now buy one skirt and change the fringe as often as you want, remove the fringe, launder the skirt and reattach the long fringe or create a fabulous new fringe and change the skirt look.
This project is the result of pondering how to use one skirt with many different looks...which is possible with removable fringe. Look at the pink strand, 11" drop long fringe on one side and the other skirt side has yards of 1/4" ribbon from hobby store combined with our private STRAND for a lavender flair. Both fringe trim headers were sewn the same way.
HOW TO MAKE Fringe: Please read our FAQ - how to make fringe.
Be sure you understand it is not hook and loop otherwise known by brand name Velcro. Never use Velcro it will snag your fringe and perhaps your garments too. Snap tape available from this Website Shop Tab. The private label strand in 34 colors will be released soon be sure to check back. Do you think this idea gives your dancing angel the competitive edge? Try this technique - you'll be hooked!

We all have a chair like this or something similar around the house. Upholster the seat and add your own fringe for some pop. This is an easy way to bring a new accent color into the room; new seat covering trimmed with fringe and coordinate pillow shams with fringe. Would bringing your new colors over to the curtain tie backs and a valance give a decorator look to the room?
To make this fringe, I placed the rods in holes to create the header and drop approximately 3" overall. Make fringe drop lengths that work for your project. Now that you can make your own fringe, decide what drop length and which style of fringe would look best. Make various style fringes for different projects in the same room. For example, the chair and valance could have loose fringe, the shams and curtain tie backs could be looped. How about trimming the table topper next to your bed why not wind on a couple of additional colors or textures to continue the look but change it up ever so quietly? If you wind on colors and you don't like the look, unwind and start over until you get the colors you love.

This pillow was my inspirational piece that started it all. After choosing fabrics, designs, stablilizer and thread. Using embroidery digitizing software, morfing the deisgn to make it mine and stitching it with perfect spacing - I wasn't about to drive to the local store and shop for fringe. I was intrigued with embroidery machines because of what I could create. Embroidery software offers us more creative options on morphing, changing and creating designs. Until the invention of My Own Fringemaker there weren't any options to create fringe. I didn't like letting someone else limit my fringe options by what was on the shelf available to buy.
NEVER again be limited in choices of fringe, now you make it yourself! Now You can control the colors, texture and fringe drop length. Make as much as you need. Make it for everything! The STRAND used to make fringe is our private line of 36 colors launching Fall 2011.
This is why My Own Fringemaker was developed ~ ~ controlling home decorating and wardrobe embellishments start to finish - NICE! Ohhhhvery nice!

This fringed purse is so beautiful in person and is one of several crazy patch purses created by Melinda!
I wish each one of you could see it. Melinda works her magic in everything she creates. She was one of my first customers and has created the most beautiful originals projects. Look for other totes and purses made by Melinda in this Totes Category.
The crazy patch purse was taught by Barbara Randle in Nashville. We used this class as one of my consumer focus groups. Each participant created custom fringe using My Own Fringemaker. The ladies created such beautiful fringe for their totes with such ease! I'm thinking we might have sold out of My Own Fringemakers that day, it was crazy fun! In fact, I ran into one of the ladies who was in the focus group/class at the AQS Knoxville Show two weeks ago...small world!

This tote, store bought was pretty good looking, by adding a tassel it now commands attention - less is more!
Adding a tassel might be all you need for a complete style upgrade. The tassel attached to zipper pull performs double duty.
To make this tassel supplies needed:
My Own Fringemaker, threaded straight stitch sewing machine, a wooden bead with center hole, glue, tiny headed crochet hook. yarn or ribbon, STRAND, string.
Set up rod unit and place rods in furthest holes. Wind on strand, ribbon or yarn you'd like your tassel to be. [I wound on approximately 10 yrds].
Remove rod unit from base and take to sewing machine to sew header.
Slide one rod under the presser foot and position foot parrellel to inside of one rod.
Slow your machine speed down.
Choose the longest stitch.
Straight stitch parallel along the rod, repeat several times.
Remove rod unit from the sewing machine and take whole rod unit to table for finishing.
The tassel head, use some type of wooden bead or ball with a center hole.
Cut approximately 15" of ribbon from which the tassel will hang.
Knot the two loose ends together and pull the looped end (opposite the knotted end) up through the center of the bead. Sometimes a crochet hook works great to pull the strand up through the center. The knot should be on the bottom of the wooden bead. Tug on it slightly - if it looks like it might pull through - pull the hanger back through the hole and tie a larger knot or add a button or bead to help prevent the knot from pulling through. Reinsert the looped end up through the center of the bead and proceed to next step.
Prepare to glue up an inch or so and let it tack up. I use Beacons FABRI-TAC.
Remove one rotating arm from the rod unit and scooch the fringe along rod towards this end for removal.
Dot some glue onto the header stitching.
Inch by inch slide fringe off the rod and start wrapping the header around the wooden bead attaching it to the tacky glue.
Continue gluing, sliding, wrapping around the bead until you've used all the fringe.
Wrap until you have the tassel thickness you want, this is the tassel skirt. If you need more material for a fuller skirt - make more fringe - repeating the steps
Create the tassel neck:
Use approximately 14" of ribbon, strand, rope, etc. wind around and around just below the wooden bead.
Every couple winding turns, tie a knot and keep winding, save the last few inches.
Pull the last few inches up through the neck, knot, bury the knot.
HINT: A tiny headed crochet hook maybe helpful to snake the last couple of inches up through.
Done! - how easy was this! Try it!

Do you have a pet loving friend who's hard to buy for? How about a fringe leash for their furry friend? These days people have birthday parties for their dogs - This chic one of a kind fringed leash would be a great birthday gift for dog or cat and make their human proud!
To make this fringe: Set up My Own Fringemaker.
First experiment with your scrap yarns to see which hole positions the rods should be placed on the rod unit for your project.
Position rods in holes far enough apart to accommodate the width of the leash plus slack for sliding over the snap.
Sew the fringe off center between the rods so the loops would accommodate the leash width plus snap.
IDEA #1. Add in reflective tapes or threads as you make your fringe. When the dog and owner are walking at night the reflective tape on the fringe leash reflects vehicle headlights.
IDEA # 2. Wouldn't fringe leashes be a cool fund raiser for local animal shelters?
This idea could be your next project to sell and make money!

The ladies always smile at these samples at trade shows. We did this project at our family reunion, some ladies resisted but in the end loved the final look and decided to keep and wear them! The looped fringe is made from crochet string from the hobby store. This string is available in about thirty colors. The same type of string was used to make the curtain valance and tie backs (found in Home Dec) as well as several tassels (click on Tassels). You can view photos of these other projects in this Gallery.
To make this fringe:
NOTE: Since we completed this project, I discovered, Flip Flop Glue, at Wal-Mart it is the best glue to adhering to the plastic straps.
Place rods close together in the unit. Wind on enough string to cover as much strap as you want to cover. Remove unit with rods and go to the sewing machine. Slip one rod under the presser foot and place presser foot between the rods and sew down the middle several times to make your header. Once sewn several times - remove whole rod unit from under the presser foot and take to table. Experiment with glues that will stick to this plastic-vinyl not all glues hold well on this. We applied several different glues until we were satisfied with the holding power. Let the glue tack up. Remove rods from the arms and gently remove the fringe off the rods and place it onto the tacky glued sandal. We placed wax paper rectangles over the fringe every few inches and placed clip clothes pins over the wax paper to give the glue and fringe better tacking points. Let dry thoroughly, At least over night.
After the glue dried we added the plastic beaded jewels, purchased by the yard.
This fun project would be a neat sleep over project for older girls or bridal party project. How about decorating sandals in school colors what an adorable fund raiser. Summer camp project, 4H or just for yourself.

How sweet is this purse? No pattern to copy, just size to your preferences and use your stash on hand. I used removable handles so they can move from purse to purse. My grand angels live far from us, so now I can make the purse body and send just the purse body..saves postage and the cost of more handles. The small key fob was a built in design in my Baby Lock Elegante, stitchit out in matching thread colors. Can you imagine the key fob by itself as an adorable party favor, maybe even add fringe all around the fob too? Use thread colors to match your theme.
Please note the danity fringe dancing sweetly. To get this affect after you attached the fringe inside the seam you will need to stitch- in-the-ditch to keep it upward, using gravity to pull it down somewhat - looks adorable in person wish you were here!
Back to the purse featured above, for your angels, make a purse using removable handles. Take the measurement between the two handles down by the ears where your tab will be set for the handle to latch onto and write it down.
Who doesn't love to get surprise mail?
I periodically create an additional purse that will fit the same handles and mail it off as a surprise.
This purse body folds into an envelope and is lightweight so postage is minimal. Your angel can transfer handles from the previous purse onto the new purse body. This teaches our lil' angels ideas about recycling, reusing and being green, Sweet, sweet!
Here's how I made this purse:
Take the measurement between the two handles [down by the ears where your tab will be set for the handle to latch onto] and write it down.
You will sew and assemble the purse like a pillow case with separate header.
The fringe was made using 1/8" and 1/4" ribbon ( found at sewing, hobby stores and Wally World). Some yarns maybe available from this site - depending on our stock. If you are searching for something specific andyou don't see it, send along an email and we might have one or two skeins of what you are hunting for.
Fringe has 2" drop. Place rods three inches apart in base unit. Wind on your choice of ribbons and yarns. Straight stich next to one rod several times to make a strong header. Remove whole rod unit from under presser foot and take to flat surface.
For loose hanging fringe, cut fringe off the rod opposite the sewn header rod. Now you have the header still on one rod and the othe end of the fringe is hanging loose, right?
How to attach fringe to purse:
1). Place fringe with loose ends pointing towards the pink band and bury header between seams of upper band and lower body, straight stitch.
2). Final stitching, in-the-ditch with loose ends still pointing upwards (towards the pink band). When purse is held upright, fringe falls whimsically downward. Made fringe using 1/8" and 1/4" ribbon ( found at sewing, hobby and Wally World). Some yarns maybe available from this site - depending on our stock.
IDEA: Trick or Treat bags or other use bags can be made to use with these handles one more re-use for these adorable handles.
This is a great project to use up stash fabrics and yarns and ribbons!
Personally I think every Grandma should buy a set of these handles for each grand girl. Then proceed to make a purse a month or for every special occasion. Easy on the budget and both Mom and grand Angel will adore you even more!
I can't wait to see what you come up with, email photos.
