The oriental influence exudes a feeling of endurance. This custom fringe trim tote boasts several pockets sewn inside, one to hold an energy drink for summer survival, another for your mobile and one for wallet. The focus tassel was created using My Own Fringemaker. Complete the tassel to the length you desire by adjusting the rods. Complete tassel and leave it looped by sliding the tassel off the rods . Braid some remaining STRAND to make cording, appprox 3" and knot. Cut the ends. Set aside.
Glue sewn header part around a wooden bead, or something else hard like a bead from a necklace to give the tassel head support. Let dry.
Next glue braided cording around the header onto the bead.
On the back side of tote, we added a fringe trim medallion for whimsy. It is trimmed out with the same STRAND as used for the tassel; so whether coming or going there's something visual to enjoy on this tote. The material was the inspiration for this tote, no pattern just fold and sew according to how much fabric you have. Create your own trim today, to pick up My Own Fringemaker click on the Shop page.
The handles were sold in a package of two.
Here's what I did;
1. the wood was natural and untreated, so a quick sanding with fine sand paper to make sure there weren't any tiny burrs.
2. Wipe handles off with a tack rag and now the handles are ready for stain.
3. Brush on and wipe off excess before it dries.
4. Insert into loops and you're ready to go to class with your fringed tote.

Create this upscale look yourself~ it's easy, easy! This brand new wedge style pillow would be perfect for a dorm room or any place people lounge when reading. Imagine the delight of someone receiving a pillow covered in school colors or in sorority or fraternity colors. Let your imagination soar and you'll envision many ways to incorporate this idea into your decor. The pillow purchased at TJ Max for $6.99 was recovered to match our guest room. It was more economical to cover this ready made pillow than buy a pillow form and cover it. Do what works for your time and budget.
Look closely at the fringe, you can see the rods were placed close together, yielding a narrow looped fringe. I wound on several color strands at one time, stitched down the center between the rods. Take the rod unit to your flat work surface. Remove the rotator arms and slipped the fringe off the rods. See the loops on both sides of centered stitching? I did purchase some narrow ribbon to hide the center stitching. After attaching the fringe to the pillow, I glued the narrow ribbon in place over top the header stitching creating a high end decorator look.
The ribbon detail looks like stitching produced by the Sashiko Machine sold by Baby Lock dealers.

Recently I was invited to attend a dance recital. We were entertained by children dancing, twirling, and waving to the audience, ages 4 years up to high school seniors. The last time I was involved in recitals was when I was in them, dancing, waving and whatever.
As time passed during the recital conversations with grandmas and parents seated nearby started. I was shocked by the news those tiny costumes on 4 year old children cost upwards of $80. each and each child has atleast two costumes - add in the cost of lessons, shoes, hair, accessories and it is a HUGE investment. Even if the children had talent - ouch! The cost of costuming is frightful for the family budget!
I mentioned that I invented a fringemaker and would they be interested in an inexpensive alternative - - - atleast for the younger kids or until they show an interest in dance and want to continue? There was a resounding YES YES YES!!! Because as we know it is often Grandma who foots the bills for these extras!
Buy enough T-Shirts for each dancer in the routine. I'd choose inexpensive glitzy T-Shirts from a discounted retailer like TJ MAXX and add fringe to the bottom of the shirt, NOW you have an inexpensive costume top for the youngest dancers to twirl around in, cry, wave to the audience and skip off stage three minute later. If the kids need two costumes make two different shirt fringe combinations.
The fringe on this T-Shirt is made with sparkling package ribbon. I think each shirt would use about 10 cents with of ribbon made into cut fringe. This top would cost about $3.10 to make for each dancer. A far cry from $80. each. They are not washable as some one did ask, but neither are the $80. costumes! Have a parents night of fringe making and save a ton of money.
This idea is to jump start your imagination - what inexpensive fringe trim would work for your school or church pageant? Wouldn't this be a great project for a sleep over?
If it can be wrapped and wound easily onto our rod unit you should be able to make fringe and tassels with it. Create fringe and tassels from 1" to 11" in drop length. If you need up to 48" of fringe with a 3" drop for an outfit - you can make it in one winding!
Whether you want to save money by creating your own fringe and tassels, or make money selling the fringe and tassels you make, My Own Fringemaker is for you!

My granddaughter didn't want these good-looking slightly worn jeans or the embroidered shirt, both hand-me- downs. She said, "I could have them!" The long sleeve T-shirt was previously embroidered.
For a new style, I created fringe made with pink and white yarns. Machine stitched the fringe onto shirt hemline. The appliqued jeans still had a lot of life; by adding fringe trim to the pockets, the jeans went from cute to cuter! This is a simple, simple, simple project. You have enough yarns and ribbons in your stash to do this!
She took one look at the updated top and jeans and with excitement yelled, "AWESOME! " jumping up and down. She tried the two pieces on immediately. Sometimes the two pieces are worn as an outfit other times she mixes and match the pieces with something else. Fringe trim is a good formula for extending a wardrobe, definitely wardrobe survival for all ages. Reuse, Recycle, update your fashion for any age with fringe and tassels.
By the way, I am only allowed to borrow this two piece blue jean outfit when I go to trade shows...how about this for turn around? People at my shows love this outfit make over! I love fringe on the jean hems too, when the little ones grow so fast, it's hard to keep them in clothes - lengthen the hem line with fringe and extend the wear ability of clothes a while longer = this equals budget savings!
You can make fringe be fru fru, or just plain and simple, whatever you want to create, you're in control and you're the designer!
I'm sure you will find clothing in your closets that you can jazz up with a little fringe too. Isn't nice to breathe energy back into something again, imagine the budget savings! Going green is popular these days, do it with fringe and tassels and save a lot of money!
Janeen, of Texas created a fringe T-shirt dress with lightning speed. She bought our new embellishing system one afternoon and on the way home she stopped at JoAnn Fabrics, picked up a T-shirt and fabric and the next morning she returned with her daughter's T-Shirt Dress!

This stylish purse is sure to start the holiday season with excitement. The purse was created by Ann Travis of KY, using a Baby Lock Embellisher. One side was made with a 16" square of fabric that drew into a textured smaller piece of fabric due to the 12 barbed needles. Ann used one strip of the same fabric on the second side and added other fabrics with shimmer building an upscale looking purse that will take her through the entire holiday season. Ann created fringe using My Own Fringemaker, and attached it to the purse. The handle is made of Christmas tree garland. This purse is fun to make, try it.
Please view Ann's second purse she generously shared; same category titled, holiday Theme Purse by Ann Travis.

A crazy patch style tote with monkey theme is center stage with custom designed fringe. Melinda's interpretation. of a pattern from Barbara Randle incorporates all varieties of string, strand, yarn and fancy stitching to make it authentically a crazy patch. Melinda created the same crazy fringe trim and added it horizontally to accent the purse. Melinda went a step further and added a tail of decorative fringe that hangs whimsically off one side at the top of the purse. Melinda also loves to use the bottom of purses as an art canvas. Laura G. of Stafford, VA says, "The Black and White pillow was made with two eyelash yarn fringe, black and white. I did not cut the fringe to maintain the look I wanted for the pillow. The front was embellished using the Baby lock Embellisher at the Christopher Nejman event June 2010. The (pillow) center was embroidered using a design of his in silver and gold metallic threads. The back is a stretch faux suede and embroidered with another of Christopher's Designs from the Elegant Decor I from Amazing Designs. I created the pillow after reading his Pillows book. The seminar I attended inspired me to make other pillows as well."
Thank you, Laura for sharing this designer pillow with us. You have pulled it all together in a masterpiece! Fringe On, you go Girl!!

Several members of my family have dedicated their lives to fire fighting and/or collecting fire equipment artifacts. One asked me to freshen this pillow.
New stuffing plumped it up and the pop came from creating fabulous fringe using My Own Fringemaker. I used four strands various ribbon and yarn. One ribbon is slightly wider than I usually prefer at 3/8"; however it's size mimics the size of the hose and redirects the eye back into the picture. This is so dramatic in person wish you were here to see it. Creating fringe like this is easy to do - try freshening a pillow or two by adding fringe you create yourself. Save alot of money when you can create your own trim and tassels!
For those of you who would like to know the steps I took to refresh this pillow as well as create and sew in the fringe; I will be blogging the steps. Click on the Blog tab at the top of the Web Site to see the steps.
A charming hat by itself, but create your own fringe, add it to the hat and presto, one of the most adorable hats for a little girl that I've ever seen! You to CAN make fringe like this in minutes.
Place the rods approximately 3" apart. Wound on pastel Flora Trends Yarn. Sewed the header and glued the header to the hat. Covered the header with plaid ribbon. Note, the ribbon was 2" wire ribbon, after removing the wire and I folded the ribbon into thirds to reduce the ribbon width. The ribbon was glued in place over the header. Note the fringe is longer in the back than in the front, I trimmed the front level with the hat brim and graduated the length around the side leaving the back as long as was created on My Own Fringemaker. Easy easy - start today, you'll be so glad you did!
IDEA: Making this fringe trim was so fast, economical and creative that every little girl should have a hat for every outfit.
If you sew for customers and "throw in a hat" as a freebie all decked out with fringe - who do you think they will call again when they need something custom? They will call you, THE creative one! You'll have no competition, your competition be left in the dust!

Every color yarn and ribbon I had to make fringe complimented the color of this tote. The hardest decision was narrowing the decision of mixing and matching the yarns to create the fringe. Making fringe is so easy and so much fun. Look around the Gallery at the samples and watch the instructional videos behind the HOW TO Tab, ...join the fun!
After winding on the yarns, I sewed down the center between the rods several times to create a header. Remove rod unit from under the presser foot and take to a flat surface to work on.
I cut the looped fringe off both rods resulting in loose hanging fringe. When attaching the fringe to the tote, sew down the center, right over the header stitching. DONE!
Easy, easy, totes go anywhere - a fringed tote would be a nice hostess gift - no worries about matching home

This quirky little embellished tote is perfect for a quick run into town. Melinda created this tote and isn't it adorable? Flowers and petals have the Grandkids names on them. If you have more grands, create more flowers and petals. Note the bottom edge of the tote is fringed. She captured every color in the the flower design and created custom fringe to match.
Melinda pulled from her stash of yarns and ribbons to make fringe. She wound her ribbons and yarns onto the rods, sewed the header and cut the yarns and ribbons loose from one rod, creating loose hanging fringe. She enclosed the header into the bottom seam of the bag and stitched it closed. She wanted the flowers and petals to be the focus so by reducing the drop length of the fringe, the bag is framed just perfectly and the flowers and petals remain the design focus.
Thank you Melinda for sharing this tote. Melinda has a fabulous on-line fabric shop, stop by and take a peek. http://melindasfabricshop.com

Never before has it been this easy to make up to 48" of fringe in one sitting.

School is starting soon - dance classes will start too. What little girl wouldn't step a little higher carrying this fringe shoe tote? Marsha H. of Texas created this adorable shoe tote and it is too cute! She showcased this fringe tote at the Martha Pullen Market Show in Arlington, 2010. Every one who stopped by could think of at least one dancer who'd be proud to carry this fringe trim tote! Marsha had fun shopping for ribbon and yarn to make fringe. She wound ample ribbon onto the rods yielding a full and lush fringe. The rods were closer together to make the short cut fringe at the top of the tote. The rods were placed in the furthest holes creating 6" cut fringe for the bottom fringe.
During the show Marsha mentioned her plans to make this fringe shoe tote in school colors for their fund raisers - - -the fringe trim totes should sell like hot cakes! THANK YOU Marsha for your creative energy, help and encouragement.

Fringe a Patriotic Themed Gift Bag, perfect fit for Labor Day coming up - and don't forget it makes a nice way to remember your favorite elected official. Recycle the gift bag and use it for July 4th and Memorial Day also.
The cut fringe is made with Sizzle Thread. Usually thicker thread is reserved only for bobbin work but now we have another use for it - FRINGE trim.
The cut fringe is cute and easy to create, you can do it! To view progressive steps in making this fringe gift bag - click on the Blog Tab.
Initially I was thinking something fringed and patriotic to wear would be different but - - - I was stuck. Thanks to the advice of Kathi - my skilled and gifted Niece who thought more people would prefer a gift bag. Kathi recommended cutting a narrow strip of the fabric, cutting along both long edges and wash it so it would fray, making fringe fabric trim. ..too quaint! Note one bag has a narrow strip of matching fabric with frayed edges attached vertically, as fabric fringe and the other bag has narrow blue ribbons adorning the vertical edges. Can you see the difference between the two fringe trims?
Kathi says, "With the popularity of coffee drinks there are so many flavored add-ins that this decorative fringe bag would be a great way to present a hostess gift. Kathi also suggested sewing up both ends, after stuffing it to make a fringe pillow." Clever!
Cute, easy and you can do make and trim a bag like this and change up your own fringe! To view progressive steps in making this patriotic decorative fringe bag - click on the Blog Tab. Thanks Kathi - for two great fringe ideas!
